In the late 6th and early 7th centuries AH, the two major governments of the Khwarazmian and Ghurid dynasties in eastern Iran were in a state of confrontation; however, this confrontation manifested not only on the battlefield and in politics but also in the cultural and religious spheres. The Ghurids, due to their long-standing relationship with the Abbasid Caliphate, considered themselves the protector of this religious and political institution against the incursions of the Khwarazmian government, from the reign of Sultan Ala al-Din Tekish (568-596 AH) to the reign of Muhammad Khwarazmshah (596-617 AH). Although the Khwarazmians, especially during the era of Sultan Muhammad, tried to avoid this confrontation, they were ultimately forced to enter this conflict, which eventually led to the decline of the Ghurid government. Undoubtedly, the victories of the Khwarazmians in Khorasan and eventually throughout the Ghurid territories were also indebted to their victory in the cultural-religious competition, the results of which were evident on the battlefield. This research seeks to follow the historical causes affecting the process of these confrontations from the military arena to the cultural-religious competition with a descriptive-analytical approach and aims to answer the following question: 1. What was the evolution of the relations between the Khwarazmians and the Ghurids during the years of Muhammad Khwarazmshah's reign until the end of the Ghurid rule, by comparatively examining their behavior towards cultural and religious events? The research findings indicate that the relations between the Khwarazmians and the Ghurids, after peaceful relations during the reign of Sultan Tekish Khwarazmi, turned into challenging and difficult relations accompanied by military and cultural confrontation, which ultimately led to the collapse of the Ghurid government and the weakening of the Khwarazmian government.
